Summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Then She Was Gone comes “her best thriller yet” (Harlan Coben, New York Times bestselling author) about a young couple’s disappearance on a gorgeous summer night, and the mother who will never give up trying to find them。

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend。

One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate。 Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite place for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE。”

Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple? And what exactly is buried in this haunted ground?

“Utterly gripping with richly drawn, hugely compelling characters, this is a first-class thriller with heart” (Lucy Foley, New York Times bestselling author) that will keep you on the edge of your seat。

I enjoyed this book from start to finish。 It was a well written, light read。

There were definitely some intense parts in this book where I was hooked, but there were also parts where I just wanted to skip ahead because it felt like it was dragging on and on and on。 There was a lot of back-and-forth in time, which was confusing。 Felt like too many random things happening at once, with an ending that was equally random and unrealistic。

Everything I want a modern summer mystery to be。 Would recommend。 (Would write more, but don’t want to give anything away。

This is exactly the kind of thriller I love! I had some idea of where it might be going, but it still managed to keep me surprised and engaged right to the end。 I'm 2/2 with Lisa Jewell now, definitely an author I'll check out more from! Lisa Jewel never disappoints her audience。 Another great book。 Had a few slow starts but once I got past those pieces they made sense。 Read all the details。 Don’t speed read or you’ll miss something 😉

Another page turner from Lisa Jewell。 I really enjoyed it but felt the ending was slightly predictable compared to other books by this author。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Interesting and exellent way that the story unfolds。And I loved the fact that it kinda was a lesbian love story。On the other side I did not like the way Zack died。 That could have been more dramatic。

Pretty good book。 I seem to like mystery’s lately。 Nice to guess what’s going to happen。 I wasn’t completely in love with it but there was some nice foreshadowing and a big surprise at the very end

You might have seen a creepy pic of this book on my thighs on my Instagram cuz it was sooooo good I had to promote it other places。 I dunno how many people actually read my reviews on here。 This is my second Lisa Jewell book (first was Then She Was Gone) and now I'm gonna go down a rabbit hole and read her whole collection。 Thanks, Lisa!! Very slow start to a pretty good who dunnit。 Lots of moving pieces to try to figure out how and why two 19-year-old new parents go to dinner one night and then disappear。 You know something is up, but just can’t quite figure it out。 The ending will leave you thinking, “I never saw THAT coming!”

I struggle a little on the rating to give the book。 I'll probably go with a 3,5 (when will goodreads have the ,5 option?!?!)。The story is very interesting and fast paced, we want to know what really happened and the going back and forward makes it quite compelling。 Loved the ending, wasn't expecting that! But。。 I really didn't like Sophie, and she was one of the main characters on the current timeline - I never understand people that poke their nose's in someone else's business。 So, you see a sig I struggle a little on the rating to give the book。 I'll probably go with a 3,5 (when will goodreads have the ,5 option?!?!)。The story is very interesting and fast paced, we want to know what really happened and the going back and forward makes it quite compelling。 Loved the ending, wasn't expecting that! But。。 I really didn't like Sophie, and she was one of the main characters on the current timeline - I never understand people that poke their nose's in someone else's business。 So, you see a sign saying "dig here", and you do it: ok, that part it's not too bad。 But then you hide things you have found and start investigating a mystery just because you're curious? Loved the twists and turns of this book。

“Men don’t know how the touch of a hand against the back of your neck can feel like a request, not a gesture of love, how emotional issues become too cumbersome to deal with, how their love for you is too much sometimes, just too much。 Kim sometimes thinks that women practise being mothers on men until they become actual mothers, leaving behind a kind of vacancy。”What a trip this book was。 So addictive。 I absolutely had to know what was coming next, and though I feel like the pacing was a bit of “Men don’t know how the touch of a hand against the back of your neck can feel like a request, not a gesture of love, how emotional issues become too cumbersome to deal with, how their love for you is too much sometimes, just too much。 Kim sometimes thinks that women practise being mothers on men until they become actual mothers, leaving behind a kind of vacancy。”What a trip this book was。 So addictive。 I absolutely had to know what was coming next, and though I feel like the pacing was a bit off, it was still a solid, solid read。 RTC! 。。。more

Great read!!! I really enjoyed this book。 It keeps you guessing! The characters are odd but I grew to like most of them。 I liked all the puzzle pieces you read along the way that makes puzzle come together。 I will definitely read another book by Lisa Jewell!!!

My favorite of Lisa Jewell’s books so far。 Lots of twists and turns and mysteries。

The premise was good, but for me it was too long and drawn out。
